Frequently asked questions

How is an Innovation Team different from Staff Augmentation?

Staff Augmentation adds practitioners to a delivery system your organization already owns. Your team retains primary responsibility for product direction, backlog, architecture, delivery practices, and day-to-day coordination.

An Innovation Team is a managed cross-functional unit with greater shared responsibility for discovery and delivery. Ingenuity helps shape the team composition, working model, backlog, product practices, and delivery cadence around agreed outcomes. Staff Augmentation is strongest when capacity is the constraint; an Innovation Team is stronger when the organization needs a more complete product capability.

When is Staff Augmentation the right delivery model?

Staff Augmentation is strongest when your organization already has clear product and technical ownership, an established backlog, delivery practices, review mechanisms, and people who can direct the additional capacity effectively.

It is a good fit when the primary constraint is insufficient bandwidth or a missing specialist capability. If priorities, product direction, team structure, or delivery ownership are still unclear, adding people may increase coordination overhead; a Sprint, Project, or managed Innovation Team may be a better starting point.

How do Ingenuity practitioners integrate with an existing team?

Practitioners are onboarded into the client’s existing product and delivery environment: backlog, tools, architecture, design system, coding standards, reviews, planning cadence, communication channels, documentation, and working agreements.

The objective is integration rather than a parallel vendor workflow. Effective augmentation also includes making knowledge visible so context is shared with the broader team rather than accumulating around an external individual.

Can the size or skill mix of an augmented team change over time?

Yes. Staff Augmentation is intended to be flexible, and the right capacity may change as the product, backlog, or internal team evolves. An engagement might begin with engineering capacity and later require more quality, cloud, data, research, or design support—or reduce external capacity as internal capability grows.

Changes should still be planned around continuity, onboarding cost, knowledge transfer, and the responsibilities the client expects the augmented team to own.
